The power supply unit of my desktop PC broke down earlier this year and, instead of going through the trouble of installing a new one, I decided to switch entirely to my Surface 3 tablet. It cannot run LotRO well, and I am currently unable to take any fancy screenshots. Fortunately, I managed to finish Rohan storyline before the incident, and I still have a bunch shots to publish. For this round, I selected a set themed around the various battles in Rohan.
‘I see a white stream that comes down from the snows,’ he said. ‘Where it issues from the shadow of the vale a green hill rises upon the east. A dike and mighty wall and thorny fence encircle it. Within there rise the roofs of houses; and in the midst, set upon a green terrace, there stands aloft a great hall of Men. And it seems to my eyes that it is thatched with gold. The light of it shines far over the land. Golden, too, are the posts of its doors.’
~ J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Chapter VI
It has been a while since my last LotRO gallery post. I originally planned to post on monthly basis, but it happened that I skipped February. However, the theme for March is Thinglad.
Thinglad is an area within the Great River region in Rhovanion. Adjacent to the southern border of Lothlórien, Thinglad is defined by its tall, grey trees with twisted, roots that drink deeply from the Great River. The forest is misty and shadowed while the skies are pale and as cheerless as the land itself.
To match the season on the northern hemisphere the theme of todays Middle Earth screenshots is snow. For some reason I have always liked the wintry areas in games and there are many in The Lord of the Rings Online. From them I have chosen four for this gallery. (more…)
This is the first part of a screen shots gallery series from The Lord of the Rings Online, that I have planned to do. Even if the game engine is a bit aged, the game still offers some quite impressive scenery. It is also relatively faithful to the spirit of the original work and I like the realistic graphic style. I am not a LotRO fashionista, so the shots will be mostly scenery. The purpose of the images is to convey the feeling and atmosphere of Middle Earth. You can think them as virtual photography combining the both themes of my blog.
